We went to this location to purchase eye glasses using our vision insurance (exam was done elsewhere). This was not a good decision.
We purchased two pairs of glasses (one for my wife and one for myself), and were very clear that the pair we were purchasing for me was to be fully covered by insurance. We selected frames for me that were under the allotted amount, and I declined any special options on the lenses, stating clearly that "I only want what is covered by my insurance" (this lead to a very high-pressure sales pitch in which the person helping us warned me that I was jeopardizing my eye health by doing so).
At check out we were charged $40 for my glasses to cover a "copay" (my wife's glasses were billed separately). This did not sound right given my understanding that our insurance required no copay for basic materials. The person helping us assured us that if this was the case the money would be refunded when we picked up the glasses (it was near store-closing on the final day of the insurance year, so I did not quibble in the moment).
When my wife and I went to pick up our glasses, we brought with us the summary of our vision insurance benefits to inquire about the copay issue. At that time, we were told that there was no copay charged when we originally paid, and that the $40 was a surcharge for elective upgrades to the lens materials that was listed on the bill as a copay because "there is no code for upgrades." We then reiterated our desire for only materials that were covered by insurance.
We were ultimately given the option to reorder the glasses with the requested materials. We agreed, and are currently waiting for the remade lenses. While the customer service on our second visit mitigated the issues with cost, it did not make up for the first visit in which the person working either (1) was not listening to what we had to say or (2) was trying upsell against our express wishes. Needless to say, we will not be going back.
