| - I try and keep my reviews as objective as possible. All too often, people will review a business negatively simply because they shouldn't have been there in the first place. I don't have children, as such, you won't find any reviews of stores or establishments that cater to children coming from me. Unless of course I should find myself in a store like that. But, I can guarantee the review won't be along the lines of "I don't have children, so this place sucks".
So, with that introduction, I hate country music and the whole cowboy/western theme doesn't appeal to me in the least. But I have been to Cowboys on several occasions for a few reasons. At first, it was because two close friends of mine were the main DJs for quite some time. Then, it was because another close friend was a long time best friend with a manager there. So I'm slightly ashamed to say that I've probably been to Cowboys more than any other club in Calgary.
I'm not ashamed, however, to say that I thoroughly enjoy every trip I've made to Cowboys. They play a lot of country music during Stampede, naturally, but otherwise it's at a minimum. I've been to Cowboys both before and after their renovations but mostly afterwards, as my first visits to this location were when it was Coyotes. You see, Cowboys moved and took over the Coyotes location.
Cowboys, post renovation, in their new location, is really a nice looking club. Owned by the Penny Lane Entertainment group, they really do a great job of making nice looking clubs. Cowboys is no exception. It's not cheap, and be prepared to line up if you come late, especially during Stampede (actually, be prepared to line up no matter what time you come during Stampede).
I've always laughed at couples who come to Cowboys. Seriously, make sure you have a rock solid relationship going to Cowboys. Aside from the great looking staff, you'll find a lot of beautiful, single, intoxicated people at Cowboys. That can spell trouble. Check it out, don't worry if you don't have a cowboy hat or boots, and use the country music as a chance to freshen up your drinks (unless you like that kind of thing).
