| - For a buffet in the Bellagio, I was expecting a LOT more. I even figured in the fact that I was here for lunch too!
The wait wasn't too bad, around 30 minutes. You pay immediately when you reach the front, and wait some more for an open table.
If you take a step back for an overview of the entire buffet line, there actually isn't that much variety as a few stations have the same food items that are just setup on different sides, and the accompaniments take up a good amount of space as well. I started in the cold station that consisted of smoked salmon and smoked trout, and a few seafood ceviche/seafood salads. They were not good at all, especially the smoked trout as it tasted spoiled rather than smoked. The salmon was all right, not great. The Snow Crabs were not fresh and had an off taste. I tried two pieces thinking the first was just a bad one, but nope. They're all bad. The saving grace was the King Crab, which was sweet and fresh. And of course, loaded myself up on that. :) Other food items that I enjoyed were the pizzas, and the pesto mashed potatoes. That's it. The prime rib wasn't good at all. It wasn't seasoned enough, and the meat was more on the cold side.
The weakest station by far, and what I've ever experienced is the Sushi/Asian station. The sushi was your the super basic rolls. There was also hand made tuna roll and summer rolls, which both were AWFUL. The nori on the tuna roll was soft, rice was tough...basically it probably sat there for a while. The same for the summer roll. The rice wrapper was thick and tough. It was inedible, and had to literally pull the wrapper out of my mouth because I couldn't even chew it. The filling tasted terrible as well. Connected with this station was the cheese and meat portion, which again, was your super basic cheeses and meats.
Don't get me started on the Chinese section! Seeing the fried rice and fried noodles, the overcooked Chinese Broccoli, congee, and the wonton soup with no wontons even visible was disheartening.
There was a breakfast station, which had your basics: scrambled egg, sausages, waffles, eggs benedict, bacon, French toast, potatoes, etc. Plus a ham and turkey carving station, and omelet station. Come on, it's 2PM, get rid of that breakfast station!
The dessert section looks big and appears to have many selections if you're just walking by while you're grabbing your main course items, but when you are ready for dessert, there actually isn't much of a selection because one half has the same stuff as the other. The dessert I had wasn't very good at all: caramel flan, tiramisu, bread and rice pudding, and this really bad raspberry white mousse cake that was awful.
Overall, I was expecting something more, something different, something atypical from the usual buffets I've experienced outside of Las Vegas, but I wasn't expecting to see the most basic and low end buffet, especially being located in the Bellagio. I was bewildered. Did I come on a rare day where it was out of everything? Whatever the case, I was fairly disappointed.
