| - This is the quintessential Montreal dinner spot - cozy, delicious food and so welcoming on a cold winter's eve. Having an every-changing chalkboard-only menu is a bold move, but it is very clear that Chuck Hughes knows what's up.
We had the spaghetti squash with buffalo mozzarella, sultanas and pistachios, along with the lamb meatballs to start. This combo easy takes the cake compared to any version of its more traditional counterpart, good ol' spaghetti and meatballs. The spaghetti squash was cooked perfectly (no broken or soggy strands here), and when the melted mozzarella oozed into it, it was pure butter. The lamb meatballs were deliciously savory, and were cut with a bit of sharp feta, also fantastic.
For our main, we shared the duck with beets and butternut squash. The duck was succulent and juicy and the beets and squash were roasted perfectly, with a bit of crisp on the outside, but melt in your mouth mash on the inside. Again, amazing.
Dessert didn't disappoint - salted caramel profiteroles. Despite having no chocolate (my usual and often only dessert selection), these little treasures were very worth it. Good americano to wash it down, too.
Service was warm and informative.
