You know what sucks about Carolina Meat & Fish market? That it's a gazillion miles from my home north of Charlotte. Other than that inconvenience, I really like the place and try to make a stop whenever I'm down in that part of the QC.
My most recent visit was a week ago and I walked out with 2 dozen gulf oysters (these were from Louisiana) and 4 hog-nosed snapper fillets. I have a thing for oysters from the gulf, eating a ton of them when in college and still more when vacationing on the FL panhandle which we do often. These met every expectation I had as we ate them raw... Fresh, briny and frankly just a taste of home for me.
The fish was outstanding as well. Plump fillets and again very fresh like the oysters (owner let me know what came in that day). We blackened them and were really pleased with the texture, flavor, etc.
The folks running the place are friendly and the store is also a good follow on Instagram. Lucky for me it looks like I'll have some more regular work related reasons to be in this part of town and I couldn't be happier about the opportunity to get more fresh seafood. One day, I'll try the "Meat" portion of their name as well!
