  • I finally got to visit Barrio last week for the first time, and like most everyone, I was not disappointed. I did however need some help from the server choosing what I should eat and drink. For 2 reasons. One: Everything looked so interesting and good. Two: The title's were in Spanish and I was not familiar with some of the meat's and their name's in Spanish. He suggested the Paloma. A Drink I am a fan of and I would have to say this is one of the best Paloma's I've had, perfectly balanced, sweet, tart, strong, yet not over powering. I remember hearing some where about their bread and olive spread and how fabulous it was. Sure enough, very satisfying. To start we got the Esquites: Buttered roasted corn kernels topped with chipotle cream, aged cotija cheese, cilantro and fresh lime juice. The perfect way to start a meal, it was light so that it did not fill us up too much yet so rich and zesty. For my entrée I finally settled on Enchiladas del Mar: Blue corn tortillas filled with quesos Oaxaca and de cabra, topped with shrimp, lump crab and scallops in a tomatillo cream reduction. Talk about rich. The sauce was rich but didn't over power any flavor of the seafood. The Quesos Oaxaca Cheese strangely complimented the seafood and the portion was very generous. We finished the night off with the Churros Rellenos de Cajeta de Cabra: Churros filled with goat's milk caramel, served with vanilla bean ice cream, and topped with mas caramel and candied pecans. The goat's milk caramel was a bit too much for me. However, my husband licked this plate clean. I was impressed. I couldn't get enough of the candied pecans, Carmel and ice cream. I think what made this night so special though is the atmosphere of this place. It was small and cozy. They had this amazing live music. 2 men, a few instruments, and beautiful voices. They were very funny as well. They made us giggle, bob our heads, and sway to the music as we enjoyed our meal. I really cant wait to bring some friends and family to this place.
