  • We had been planning to try Fiorella's for a while, so we finally went on a Friday night about 6pm. It was pretty empty when we got there, which was both good and bad, good because we had our 2.5 year old with us, and it's nice to know that if we have a tough night, there are fewer other diners being bothered, bad because it may mean that the place wasn't good enough to draw a crowd. The decor was dark, but pleasant, and there was a TV on at the bar. There were no crayons or paper menus for the kiddo, thankfully I always carry my own. The most fantastic part of our experience was the waitress, she was attentive without being smothering, and was excellent with our son. I was particularly impressed that she went out of her way to make sure he couldn't hear that they were out of mac and cheese on the kids menu. Even better, she was aware of the fact that kids' food should come out 'less hot' and was apologetic that his was as hot as it was when it came to the table. The menu seemed to be a pretty basic collection of Italian dishes, pastas, pizzas and sandwhiches. The kids menu contained a limited selection of pastas, so we opted for our usual strategy of ordering our son's meal from the regular menu and just taking the leftovers home. As for the food, the basket of garlic bread was really fantastic and slightly different than your usual garlic bread. Our entrees, on the other hand, were unremarkable and uninteresting. My husband had the chicken canneloni, which he described as 'alright' and smaller than he had anticipated. I had the Gamberoni alla Fiorentina (Shrimp with spinach and cheese), which sounded much more interesting than it was; it was perfectly decent, just uninspired. The best food of the evening was the chicken parmigiana sandwich that my son had, which was perfectly breaded chicken and served on the yummy garlic bread we had gotten in our bread basket. And it was just as good cold the next day for lunch, when I got to eat his leftovers. We felt that the restaurant was decent, but slightly overpriced for the quality of the food. I really felt that there wasn't anything there I couldn't make at home, and if you like basic Italian food with no bells or whistles, this could be a solid choice. We prefer a little more variety and interest when we dine out (I can do basic at home), so we were a little disappointed. The service made up for a lot though, and we'll probably go back to try out their pizza at some point. Overall, it was a perfectly middle-of-the-road place that worked for a family with a small child.
