| - I love it when I read reviews from disgruntled people complaining about how terrible some hotel is when they are the same people unwilling or unable to pay to stay anywhere better. Hello!? You're at The Riviera NOT The Mandarin Oriental. I spent 3 nights at that hotel last time I was here...for 200+!bucks a night on sale!!
I am staying in the Riviera right now in a standard room in the old tower. It's fine. The a/c works, the room has 2 comfy beds, the shower gets hot, there are towels, the bathroom is large and has a working toilet, the blackout curtains block the light, the flat tv has cable, the wifi is free and fine, the casino has cheap drinks and it's a short walk to anywhere else or at least to the Monorail. Free valet parking too!
And all for about $60 a night. I am MORE THAN GETTING MY MONEYS' WORTH! Expedia has awesome deals on this hotel, and for a crash pad for my sister and I it's exactly right.
In our standard room in the "Classic" (which means old and not renovated) tower, There's no coffee maker, no fridge, no mini bar, no view, no balcony no fresh paint or new carpets, there are old cigarette burns on the counters and the room is slightly dank. But only slightly. Yes there are annoying people offering you "free" welcome packages in the lobbies. Who cares?! Those people are EVERYWHERE ON THE STRIP TOO!! Just say no thanks and get over it!
But the sheets are clean and for the 6hrs of coma I spend in it plus an hour of Facebook and Yelp it's exactly what we needed.
If you want plush surroundings and a Nespresso maker in your room with the little tv hidden in the bathroom mirror, open your wallet and shut your mouths buncha cheap crybabies.
I stay in 5 star hotels all the time and am happy to pay for them...when I'm on a nice romantic trip with my wife. For me and my little sis' 2 day Vegas adventure, we were happier to save on the room and buy tickets to The Eagles concert instead. This is my 3rd stay at this hotel and the next time I want a good deal I will stay here again!
Thanks Riviera for an inexpensive and albeit lackluster choice. If I wanted luster, I would pay and upgrade to it.
I'm sure this hotel has plenty of fancier rooms, but I will never know. I've told more people about what a good deal I got staying at The Riviera than I ever did bragging about how awesome it was to stay in the pricey but awesome Mandarin Oriental hotel. Interesting isn't it?
