| - I've seen Titanic's artifact exhibitions in various places many times through the years, and Luxor's experience was probably the very best experience I've ever had.
This one rivals the others - including the one in Buena Park, California - because it features "The Big Piece" - the 15 ton section of Titanic's hull, including the portholes which still have portions of the glass intact. Standing in front of this massive section of the ship itself is awe-inspiring. They provide benches in the room and I'd advise that you use them to sit down and just take in the fact that you're looking at the actual side of Titanic's hull. It's incredible.
The artifacts are fascinating and beautiful and the terrific guide inside, who studied with the man who was on the first dive to the ship back in 1987, was the most interesting and well-informed Titanic expert I've ever met, she really enhanced the experience for me and shared some thing she'd learned during her career that even I'd never heard before, and I've heard it all!
Another extra that makes this instance of the exhibit better than others around the country is the to-scale replica of Titanic's gorgeous grand staircase. They'll take your photo standing on the steps and this is the only time you're allowed to interact with the staircase other than just looking at it from behind velvet ropes, so take a moment to really take it in from that amazing vantage point. Your photo can be purchased afterwards for $6, which is worth it since your cameras and phones are strictly prohibited in the exhibit to preserve the fragile exhibits.
Another cool area is a small room with a recreation of Titanic's promenade deck. Twinkling "stars" and the sound effects of rushing water past the ship help the experience, and you can sit on a bench on the "deck" to soak it in. Mirrors help enhance the illusion of the promenade traveling hundreds of feet in either direction. Would have been a lot neater if they'd piped in some of the Titanic's orchestra music and soft sounds of people walking and talking. I'd also heard that this room was going to be chilled to the temperature it would have been out on deck, but this was not so.
Overall, a very moving and fascinating experience!! Highly recommended for any Titanic aficionados! And if you're just a fan of the movie, check this out to learn about the real deal, you'll never forget it.
