  • I had been looking forward to going here for a while, but the place was always jam packed, so we opted to wait til the new restaurant smell wore off. Well, I can tell you, it was not worth the wait. It wasn't too busy, about half full on a weeknight. Other reviewers said they service was lackluster, but now that time has went on, the staff seems pretty well trained, and our server was very good. The food also came out very quickly. That's about all I can say good about this place. The food was very pricey. I can see this flying down at their South Side location. I don't mind paying for good food, but Irwin really isn't the place for an overpriced restaurant. The dinners are about $15-$20 on average with a very few being cheaper, and a few being a bit more. Someone was taking me out here, so I didn't want to spend all of their money, so I opted to get a sandwich, which was still $11. Also, half the stuff on the menu I wouldn't even want to try. A lot of them had ingredients I just wouldn't like. And I'm not that picky. They just seem to want to use any and all things I'm opposed to. Like I wanted to get the mac and cheese, but it was cauliflower mac and cheese as one option, or broccoli mac and cheese as the other. No thank you. Ok, so down to what I tried. I got a pulled pork sandwich and fries. The fries were terrible. They were fresh cut, but were way too crispy. Also, they were not even hot when I got them. And I ate them first. They also didn't pull off the bad parts of the potato when they cut them. So I had a few black pieces on the fries. Not very appetizing. Next to the pulled pork sandwich. They put the bbq sauce on the side, and if you try the sandwich without the sauce it's downright bland. The sauce was a runny bbq sauce. It was basically like water. It tasted ok though. It was pretty spicy, which I don't mind, but some people wouldn't like it, then they'd be stuck with a bland sandwich. With the sauce, the sandwich was just ok, but the sandwich was also just lukewarm like the fries. The only thing I liked about the whole meal was the onion bun they served it on. You're better off just going 10 minutes down the road to Smoky Bones. You can get a whole bbq meal there that tastes good for under $15.
