| - We have finally emerged from a remodeling nightmare with Midwest Flooring. We have worked with contractors in the past, both for building a new home and in remodeling projects. Our experience wth Midwest Flooring has been the absolute worst. If you choose to hire them be prepared for lies, excuses, disrespect, incorrect cabinet orders, plumbing fixtures installed incorrectly, sloppy tile work, project completed way beyond promised timeframe and no communication. We left our home in their hands while we travelled for six weeks beginning in June 2016. We expected to return to a remodeled master bath and kitchen, both quite small. When we returned there was very little progress and in fact the kitchen had not been touched. My husband is a civil engineer and provided very detailed drawings with measurements and was told they appreciate knowing exactly what the client wants. Interestingly those drawings were ignored and many mistakes were made. None of those mistakes could be corrected because plumbing lines had already been installed with floors and walls buttoned up. From our return on my husband had to supervise the crew. We were afraid to leave the house. Not what we signed up for. When our new kitchen cabinets arrived all the drawer fronts were flat instead of paneled, one cabinet was the wrong size and instead of getting cabinetry for our island, we got three trash cabinets. Four cabinet doors were warped and we were told it was due to the monsoon! The mishap on the cabinet order was blamed on the cabinet company. We are now working directly with the OakCraft cabinet company who have been amazing! They confirmed that doors are warped but advised it was not due to the monsoon. They also let us know that the original order mistakes were made by Midwest Flooring, not by their company. Other kitchen issues; one section of our quartz countertop is deeper than the rest of the counters, the seam is very noticeable; the cabinet finish was matte instead of satin. In the shower, the drain that we wanted in the middle of the floor is closer to where we stand in shower. The bathtub faucet was set too high and the long horizontal niche we wanted above the faucet was built as a vertical niche. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that this nightmare began the first part of June and the last crew member left the middle of September. We are currently without cabinet doors as the company is making everything right. I cannot recommend Midwest Flooring for your remodel projects.
UPDATE: our shower tile started to deteriorate and crumble after a few months. We had Arizona Tile come to look at it and they said it appeared water was getting in behind the tile. We then called Midwest assuming they had a warranty and thought they should check it out. But because of our previous review he did not want to come to asses the situation. We finally told him we would rather not go to the Registrar of Contractors to file a complaint. So he sent his tile guy over. When we asked the tile guy if he had sealed the tile after it was installed he said he couldn't remember! He asked if we wanted him to clean the tile that was crumbling! When we replied that cleaning would not be the appropriate action to take he asked if we wanted him to replace the tiles that were affected. Thankfully Arizona Tile had furnished us with replacement tile so we had him replace the damaged ones. And when he finished, he sealed the entire shower. Hopefully this is the end!
ANOTHER UPDATE: the shower wall between the shower and the toilet is now bowed. That wall was built with plywood to allow for a sliding door between the shower and toilet.
