| - Have you ever spoken with someone on the phone and gotten the immediate vibe that they're just that breed of really nice, genuine people? I do. And I got it when I phoned Econo Tire looking for a pair of used tires to replace a flat I got last week.
I had initially taken the flat into Kal-tire to see if it could be fixed. Turns out, no. Whatever I ran over made a gash too large to fix. And my tires are getting to the point of needing replacing anyway, they suggested I replace them. Anyway, new tires just weren't in the budget this month, but I can't drive around on my spare forever. I did a search on the web for used tires and came up with Econo Tire. I phoned to see if they had any tires that would fit my car.
I don't know a heck of a lot about how my car runs. I know how to check the oil, put in more windshield washer fluid, and test the air pressure in my tires. But when I was asked what size of tire I needed, I had no idea. Manuel (owner), offered to look it up online for me to see if we could confirm the size, when we couldn't, he explained what kind of number I was looking for and waited on the phone while I ran out to my car to check. When I came back in, he confirmed he had a couple of used tires in good condition that would fit. For the tires and installation, he quoted me a total of $110.
When I walked in, Manuel came out front and said "Wendy?" Yep, that's me. I liked this guy all ready. He had me drive my car around back. The tire change took all of about 45 minutes, during which time Manuel invited me to wait in his little office/conference room at the front and put on a pot of coffee for me. Seriously, you'd think I was a guest in his home-I was that well taken care of.
Once my car was finished, his mechanic guy drove it back around to the front for me and, sure enough, the price I paid was what was quoted to me... with GST of course.
The only drawback to buying used tires is that there isn't the same lifetime type warranty you might get with new ones. But there is a 30 day warranty that Econo Tire honours in the event something goes awry.
