Very bad customer service experience. Made me feel like some sort of criminal when I went in to return a Christmas present from my dad. This is how the conversation went with the very catty French employee...
Me: I'd like to return this but I don't have the receipt.
Her: It's our policy, you need the papers with you to make a return. We won't be able to help you, we can't give you any money.
(Caught off guard by her cattiness, but had prepared for this as that's a common retail policy)
Me: Can you look it up in the system under my dad's account? We're both members.
(Literally all but 1 employee now walk around the counter to see how she'd handle it on the computer so 5 people are now looking at me judgmentally)
They find the receipt and then the French woman says "You smell very strongly" and motioned her hand over her nose (I work in a medical marijuana dispensary so I naturally leave work smelling rather fresh.) She then asks why I smoke and I explain that I'm also a MMJ cardholder for PERSONAL MEDICAL reasons. She asks "Why? What happened? Were you in an accident?"
With 5 people now looking directly at me I froze up and was honestly just baffled. I nervously explained I use medical marijuana for chronic headaches, insomnia, muscle spasms and because I HAVE EXTREME SOCIAL ANXIETY. This woman put me on the spot in front of all of her employees after I said it was for PERSONAL MEDICAL reasons. I was so embarrassed even though my usage is legal and encouraged by my doctors, I didn't have to explain my symptoms to her but I did. And it was met with a smirk! Like she thought I was just some stoner burnout, looking at me like "oh sure it's for medical purposes *wink* "
So to sum it up:
1) She didn't even offer to look the purchase up in my dads account. I had to suggest it! Because why should she be doing her job, right? Just tell me "we can't give you any money." And try to kick me to the curb.
2) She put me on blast in front of the rest of the staff, as if I was some druggie trying to return stolen clothes.
3) They all made me feel pressured to answer her nosey question about my personal medical issues.
Overall awful experience. I'm a grown man and my anxiety is usually well contained but my eyes literally teared up while I was in that store. Like the amount of bad vibes and judgement I was met with was surreal to me.
But then again, maybe I'm just used to providing professional customer service.
