Ted's is a staple in this part of the Valley and especially with the upstate New York folks. They char grill everything on the menu (including the bacon) and they do it right in front of you. They have decent fries (better with the cheddar cheese) and above average onion rings.
The service is better than average for a fast food place (avoid if you are in a hurry because nothing is fast at Ted's) and they have just remodeled recently. The place looks pretty good on the inside but nothing spectacular. There is ample parking since they are located in a strip mall.
They are pricey in my opinion but almost all the places in the Valley that specialize in hot dogs are for some reason.
I've been coming here for over 15 years and there is almost always a HUGE line to order your food. I liked their food better back in the day. I'm not sure if they changed something or it's just me. At the end of the day I want to really like Ted's and support them but the food just isn't good enough in my opinion to wait in those long lines!
In a nutshell:
Buffalo folks like Ted's
Detroit folks like Detroit Coney
Chicago folks like Portillo's & The Chicago Hamburger Company
It's hard to be receptive to different styles of cooking or different meats when you have gotten used to your food a certain way or style. Ted's uses Sahlen Meats for their dogs and I prefer Vienna Beef.
One last thing, the Loganberry drink they offer is pretty good! Never had anything like that anywhere else.
