| - We just recently had our second stay at the Mirage (late August).
For the most part, my wife and I are huge fans of the mirage. This last trip, which I will base this review on, we stayed on the 26th floor, in a 1 Bedroom Suite.
Facilities:
Huge fan of Mirage facilitates. A heck of a lot of great restaurants and decent places to drink. The casino floor is a bit smaller than other MGM Properties, but still has everything you would need. Portofino is an incredible place to eat, as is LV Burgers, Carnegie Deli and a few others. For drinks: Rumbar is AWESOME, super fun place. I use to really like Revolution last time we came, which was a retro club/lounge playing off the Beatles Vibe. Unfortunately I don't think it was very popular - likely due to their extremely high prices and small dance floor, but was still fun. It's since been replaced by a Sports Bar.
I find the elevators fairly convenient, and access to the pool and shops is fairly easy.
The Mirage, in my opinion, is the best located Resort on the strip. You're pretty much walking distance to everything North of Monte Carlo.
The Mirage buffet, Cravings, is pretty awful (especially for the price) so beware of that.
Rooms:
Our suite was pretty amazing. At around 1,200 square feet with 3 televisions, a separate shower and Jacuzzi, walk-in closet, massive sectional couch and living room, huge kitchen, great view etc. we found it very worth the price. The rooms are getting a bit dated, but not enough to effect the quality of our stay. A few very minor hiccups, such as our neighbour connecting via Bluetooth to our soundbar in our room (awesome to have music blaring randomly at you first thing in the morning when it isn't yours) - simple fix, we just turned it off. Cable would randomly cut out at times, fridge was quite warm randomly, etc. But nothing major at all. Beds are always comfortable, and our suite was VERY quiet.
Service:
This is where Mirage suffers a bit, in my opinion. Our room got cleaned once, in a FOUR night stay. And the only reason it got cleaned on the last day is because I walked up to a cleaner (on two separate occasions) to ask, no... beg, her to clean our room and give us some fresh towels. When we arrived in our suite, there was the previous guests' leftover food still in the fridge and dirty glasses on the bar - yikes. Not what I expect when paying for a suite.
When checking out, we casually mentioned it to the Front Desk Manager as she checked us out. She said "that's no good" in a very casual (if not a... ditsy) voice, and continued on her way. We didn't want compensation, just wanted a simple apology.
At Cravings Buffet, you are required to tip before entering. As soon as we sat down, a younger table busser walked straight up to us and said "they don't give us any of that tip you just left, so you'll have to leave extra for me - thanks". HUH? Sorry, you're unionized bud, I don't buy that lie for a second.
We expect better treatment than that, especially given the cost of a large suite, and due to our MLife status. Many other service blunders that I could discuss, but I'll leave it at that!
Pool:
Love the Mirage pool but gets overwhelmingly busy after about 10 a.m. most days. Last time we went for the private "Oasis" pool (~$60 per person per day). Would never do this again. The service was horrible, you're crammed right beside your neighbour, and no real value other than actually getting a dedicated lounger.
Overall, we will probably stay at the Mirage again. For a suite room, we find it's the best value and best location on the Strip.
