I did some work on my car but it was overheating because there were air pockets in the radiator so I took it to the closest shop right off the 101. $80 from these guys just to pour coolant into it. Granted they told me that's all they would do, but $80? For less than a half hour of labor?
I had a jug of coolant in my trunk too. When I got my car back home, my dash said to add more coolant. Figured they would have at least added the full amount. I open the trunk and the jug was gone. Did they charge me $30 for my own gallon of coolant that I paid $16 at OReilly?
Maybe $100 an hour on labor is reasonable when your doing real work like pulling an engine or swapping a transmission. But when u just poured liquid without even having to jack the car, I feel like that labor rate is a bit gouging. I felt a bit taken advantage of but hey I guess that's why I started doing my own labor in the first place.
The only thing that I felt good about was that these guys gave me the car back within like two hours. I brought it in around 130. They gave it back within two hours. Granted there wasn't much to do but at least it wasn't sitting too long before they got to it.
