I met my husband at Durant's after work recently. The bar was filled with downtown Phoenix professionals enjoying cocktails after work. The only problem is that it was just before the smoking ban hit, so people were furiously puffing away while they could. Durant's is a very nice expense account type place, so it was nice to see that you could also eat dinner at the bar, which several people were doing. I was dressed casually so I felt a little out of place. But it was totally self induced.
We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat us in a cozy booth fairly quickly.
We started with Durant's Debris (my husband raved about it so I had to try it; it's bits of steak) and a Shrimp cocktail. The seafood here is amazing, so don't feel you MUST order a steak.
For dinner I had the shrimp and crab louis salad. Delicious and VERY generous portion. We didn't make it to dessert because we were stuffed from dinner. You might skip the appetizer if you want to have any hope...or share one.
One other funny thing. If you use the valet parking, you enter the restaurant through the kitchen, a la Goodfellas. There's a refrigerator on your left as you enter where they have one of their famous massive Porter House steaks. It's huge, like 50 ounces.
It's the ultimate place to indulge.
