| - After spending time living at "The Palladium," Broadstone Waterfront seemed to be a big step up. BW is gorgeous, it has brand new, high-quality appliances, it sits right in the heart of Old Town and walking distance from Fashion Square Mall, the bar scene, and all of the great little shops and restaurants Old Town has to offer.
For the $1400 I'm paying a month for a 670-sq. foot, one-bedroom apartment, we should be at a 5-star satisfaction rate, not 3. We're in Scottsdale, not Los Angeles or Manhattan.
The walls, ceilings and doors into the apartments are paper-thin... you can hear EVERYTHING inside and outside the apartment. Even if it's a conversation of people walking past your door, you can hear it from your couch. If you have music playing from your laptop, you can hear it down the hall... ugh. Neighbors just moved in above me (the place is finally starting to vacate, as I moved in fairly early and during the construction phase) and I can hear every footstep they take and every time they turn on the sink or flush the toilet above me.
The elevators here are a pain, as you have to use your key fob to access EACH floor, unless you're using the main lobby elevator, which is frequently out-of-order and not responsive. It's also a HUGE pain when you have guests over and there is an entire, multi-step process they have to follow in order to access your unit and ONLY ONE elevator they can use to access the parking level of the garage without a key fob when it's time to leave.
I get there is nothing the leasing office staff can do to change the materials used for the walls, ceilings and floors. There is no valet trash service offered. The units only have one closet in the bedroom, no smaller coat closet or area for the vacuum/coats in a main room area. The unit is fairly small, but do-able for one person, in my case. You are paying for your central location and brand new, expensive appliances, bottom-line.
As a dog owner, I have a small dotson-mix dog, and there is no ideal place to walk the dog if you are in a rush to work in the morning. I haven't found a decent grass area that I've been able to locate for the dog, either, which is tough. The canal was suggested for walking, but there's so much dirt, mud, fencing and construction that it's not even worth it or very accessible.
Gorgeous facility, nice apartments, but you're paying for the "Broadstone" name. In my opinion, it was worth it compared to the other options in Old Town AT THE TIME and "The Moderne" on Goldwater wasn't open in time for my move-in date. It is painfully obvious that Broadstone Waterfront was built in a rush to be ready for move-ins and inspections.
Broadstone Waterfront presents beautifully, but it definitely isn't five stars in my book due to:
-Ridiculously high pricing for very small square footage
-Incredibly difficult access for guests/visitors when entering and exiting
-Paper-thin walls, ceilings and doors (lack of privacy and you can hear everything upstairs and in your hall)
-Units are lacking storage/coat closet area
-Not very dog-friendly outside (lacking grass and too much shrubbery where it is convenient to let the dog out)
