| - I have a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid with 145K miles on it. It's a great car that I plan on driving for at least 5 more years.
On 11/30, the check engine and IMA warning lights came on the dashboard. Later that day, the lights went off. It was fine until Friday, 12/2 when they came on again and wouldn't go off that day. I spent some time over the weekend on the internet researching what the lights mean and unfortunately it meant the hybrid system battery is failing. Various forums said the dealers charge $3,000-$4,000 to replace the battery! In my research, I found EV Powers and read the Yelp reviews of his wonderful service. I told myself that if the lights came on on Monday, 12/5, I'd take it to the dealer for an opinion. Sure enough, the lights came on and I scheduled an appointment for Wednesday, 12/7 to have the dealer inspect the car. The inspection was free. The report came back with the code to replace the battery at a cost of $3,285. I said thank you very much, got my keys and left to go to work.
On my way to work, I called EV Powers and Eric answered. I explained my situation and he recommended a battery replacement. He explained to me how the hybrid system works and was very patient in answering my questions. His cost was about $400 less than the dealer quote. Note that I live in the Northwest Chicago suburbs, so it would be a 1.5 hour drive to Madison. He had an opening on Thursday morning so I booked the appointment.
I arrived at his shop (a very cool workspace!) and Eric was ready to go to work. I was able to use my computer to do work while he replaced the battery. He took the time to show me the old battery, describe the components and the hybrid system in my car. Afterwards he test drove the car to make sure everything was functioning as normal. We then talked cars for about 30 minutes (ask about his Insight).
I was in and out in a short amount of time and saved myself some money, to boot. Eric was a pleasure to deal with! I'm not sure if I'll need his services again, but if you have a hybrid car that needs a new hybrid battery, or just have questions, or need your system checked, make the drive to Madison and see Eric!
I know the review is long-winded but I felt it was justified by Eric's service. I must concur with the other Yelp reviews, they are spot on.
Thank you Eric!
