  • My brother was transfered from Sunrise Hospital to Southern Nevada Health and Rehab. The reception and nursing staff were pleasant. LVN Kathleen listened when our family was concerned about my brothers pacemaker which seemed to be having an issue. My attempts to have staff RN take a look resulted in a nurse taking his pulse and heart rate which all seemed in order. In the end, the pacemaker representative made the necessary adjustments taking care of the issue. As for the rehab centers 'case manager' I can not share the same feeling. She is the reason I am only giving a 2 star. My brother was told by the physical therapy team that he had no scheduled therapy and was to be 'released' after only 6 therapy days during his 12 day stay. Two days after therapy stopped I placed a call to the rehab centers 'case manager' and left a message as i was instructed to do. The next day I called, learning that I had left a message for the 'assistant case manager' and would need to speak with the 'case manager'. The case manager answered and I provided information about my brother and his potential release that I was concerned with. Before hearing anything about my brothers individual case I had to listen to her complain about how busy she is - being the only case manager. I am sorry but that is not my problem. By the way, she does not work weekends and only has 8 hours each weekday to catch up on all the weekend issues - not that it is any of my concern but she wanted me to know this prior to addressing my concerns. I was able to inform her that he had Aetna insurance and of his age. She proceeded to tell me that medicare would notify him by mail 48 hours prior to his being ready for release. Seriously, I told her again my brother does not have medicare, he has Aetna and he does not have medicare being 59. Not sure how a patient is to get a letter when they are not home, but that is a different problem i dont need to worry about. The rehab center's case manager passed the issue off as being with the physical therapy department as they aparently determine when someone is ready to go home. Sorry but i thought that was a doctors job to evaluate and agee. So what happened after my call you might ask, well the case worker and her assistant sat my brother down to inform him it was his decision if he wanted to leave. She told him he needed to contact me immediately and also to inform all of his family that she had spoke to him. She wanted him to tell them it is his decision, not the family's on when he leaves. Strange, I was the only family member she spoke with. Fast forward one day later my brother is 'driven' home after being given multiple prescriptions and instructions from Kathleen (thank you Kathleen your a blessing). All is well we think except that the case worker forgot to provide instructions on continuing therapy, getting a medical devise (prescription was written for breathing treatment medicine) nebulizer or option for a wheel chair. The instructions said, follow up with cardiologist and primary care physician next week - excuse me did you set and appointment or is that the patiences responsibility? Aparently she still thinks he is a medicare patient so she did not provide all the details. The case worker aparently is over worked - may be she needs more help - i dont know - she needs a better business accume and forget about telling your patience's (or their families) about your time management issues. Take care of the patient - isnt that your job? Last of all - my brother gets a call from his disability case worker at Aetna, they still do not have any information from the rehab center where he was admitted on April 16th and was released last week. I did get an opportunity to visit with the Nevada State Health Inspector - she was there during my visit. I gave the staff props....too bad i did not get to visit with her after discharge...wait I can I have her business card!!!!
