My experience at OrthoAZ was with John W. Cory for bunion's on both of my feet. I had already been told that I needed to have corrective surgery by a doctor at Mayo Clinic.
My experience was firstly with their form of questions which was not specific about when I have foot pain ( which is only after exercise or long walks) once I had been called back and after x-rays I was waiting in one of the rooms and I overheard Dr Cory's assistant complaining about how I had filled out the form, which said I was in pain for some questions and not in pain on others. ( because I am not in pain all the time)
After meeting with Dr Cory's assistant and explaining myself I was able to meet Dr Cory. He came into the room and it looked like he had greasy hair that was slicked back and needed to be cut and was wearing Birkenstock sandals with red socks. Needless to say this is not the professional doctor I had expected to meet after watching videos of him online where he looked clean cut and and, well, like a professional doctor.
He proceeded to look at my feet and tell me that I needed to wear toe spacers while wearing shoes, pad the inside of my shoe over my bunion, find shoes that were wider and wear shoes that were flat on one side like his. Also that I should massage my feet more and that this would prevent the bunions from getting any worse. ( even though I have already decided to opt for surgery)
I have to say that if I had wanted internet or blog advice I wouldn't have paid 30.00 dollars to hear it from a doctor who dressed like Patch Adams.
I left feeling embarrassed and frustrated that I had wasted my time and money. Also, that clearly his assistant felt comfortable with chatting about his complaints outside a patients rooms and that Dr Cory himself was such a disappointment in his appearance and mousy advice.
I could not wait to exit their office even though I had to sit and listen to their instructions of how to put on a bunion sleeve and wear toe spacers.
I didn't want or need mediocre advice about how I should replace my shoes and buy new shoes that are wider and too big, which is the worst and most ridiculous thing I hear from Orthopedic doctors mouths. To a man, perhaps this is okay advice. To a women its border line insulting.
I would never recommend anyone to this office to see a doctor who clearly does not care about his appearance, gives lazy advice and an assistant that would be so careless with his opinions.
If I could give a zero star rating for yelp I would.
