  • I was so excited to finally visit the Monroeville Mall, and the Monroeville Zombies exhibit did not disappoint. Yes, it is small but definitely a must see for all zombie-fanatics and Romero film lovers. Also, it's free! It's located in the rear of the arcade on the bottom floor of the mall, close to the Macy's. We arrived mid-afternoon and were the only ones there, which was nice but I'd love to have seen more fans. The exhibit itself was small but interesting. The walls are all decorated with zombie movie posters, ranging from early films like "White Zombie," all the way up to newer films like "Zombieland" and "28 Days Later." There is a map of the mall that diagrams where all the action took place (although most of the fixtures and stores have been remodeled or removed), as well as props from a few movies and about a dozen life-size mannequin replicas of memorable movie characters like zombiefied Fly-Boy and the fat zombie from "Return of the Living Dead." There are 2 "behind the scenes" films playing on 2 televisions in the exhibit, one of which I wish I had gotten the name of because it was interesting and I would like to watch it again! There is also a nice gift shop (I picked up the Monroeville Zombies tee I've been wanting for a while), I saw you can also buy parts of the original Monroeville Mall (like chunks of escalator and the like). They've got posters, dvds, shirts and some other zombie/horror themed stuff. I'm glad I finally visited, I'm always so afraid that some developer or new management will decide they don't need this around. If I lived closer I'd definitely pop in now and then. If you're interested, Evans City Cemetery, where some of "The Night of the Living Dead" was filmed is just about an hour north.
