| - I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. The welcoming staff was very friendly and we were seated right away. Our wait staff was also friendly, but for some reason the warmth and good feeling I'm used to getting at steakhouses of this caliber was missing. Despite great reviews, I was moderately impressed. The wine list was extensive and had great choices. As an appetizer we were offered a mushroom dumpling that tasted fantastic. The downside was, it was a bit cold on the inside. The popovers also had lots of raving reviews but again, I wasn't impressed and they were also a bit cold. A tableside Caesar salad was our choice of vegetable. It was tasty, but about one notch above mediocre. We both ordered the filet mignon, medium rare, and were very happy with that cut. The flavor was spectacular and cooked to perfection. The grits with cheese and bacon, I was supremely unhappy with. My better half enjoyed them but I just did not care for the way they tasted. Too much like corn and they were not smooth at all. As a birthday treat, I was presented with a scoop of pumpkin ice cream that tasted very..... pumpkin-y. It wasn't bad but I couldn't finish it. The saving grace of the meal, besides the steak, was the caramel butter cake. Oh my word I couldn't eat it fast enough. I am not even a caramel fan but THAT was a warm and delicious dessert. I would return just for that alone. All in all, this wasn't a bad restaurant. It just doesn't creep to the top of the list of eateries I'd frequent if I'm searching out a steakhouse.
