  • Extremely unprofessional and unorganized company. They have made the process of me taking over someone else's lease beyond complicated, stressful and frustrating. First off, everyone who works here has been telling my roommates and me different things. The person who is leaving the lease had a parking space addendum, and because I do not have a car I do not want the parking space. First, they were telling us that we would be able to release the spot without having someone take over it. However, now they are saying that there needs to be someone else in the building who wants it for it to be released from our contract, and that all of the vacant spaces need to be filled first. Secondly, we each have to come down in person to sign our new lease. One of my roommates had already come to sign the lease, and I went down (a 3-4 hour trip) this past weekend. After signing, I realized the total monthly payment was set to be about 200 dollars more each than it was supposed to. I asked about it, and the lady had no idea how that number got there. So essentially, there was just a random number put on this lease for us all to sign. Then, they had to write up a new lease that was going to take some time to write up. I had other appointments that day so I couldn't wait for them to make a new lease and had to come back. Since I was not able to come back before the lease begins on the 17th, I had to come back later that day and reschedule my bus. This whole process has been a HUGE inconvenience. When my roommates signed, they had a deal that discounted the rent to 710 instead of 735. However, this deal does not transfer over to me because it is nontransferable. Because of all of this inconvenience and unprofessionalism on Next Chapter's part, I called and spoke to a manager asking for an exception to be made so I could have this deal of discounted rent, as compensation for everything I have been through with them. Considering everything, and because this is the amount that would have been paid had I not taken over the lease, I felt this was reasonable. However, I was told that there was no way I could do this, and was refused the owner of the property's contact information so I could speak with him. All they could do is waive my application fee (after I asked, nothing was offered on their end to make up for everything) and maybe reimburse me the bus money after viewing my receipts, which is not adequate compensation for everything and the time I wasted. All in all... if you're thinking of signing with Next Chapter, I would definitely recommend exhausting all of your other options first because it is not worth the lack of professionalism and cooperation from the company.
