| - My mom, daughter and I flew from Edmonton to Toronto; upon arrival we had quite an extensive walk from the terminal to the baggage claim area then to the car rental area, which by the way, our car rental place Hertz was a nightmare to deal with (that is another Yelp review altogether). We obtained our rental and enjoyed our vacation visiting with family.
Come time to leave was a pain in the butt however; as my daughter was under 1 at the time and my mom is a bit older, we were given priority seating, however the agents that we dealt with seemed to have no idea where we should be going (they'd direct us to one line then another agent would tell us we're in the wrong line, directing us to another line where that agent would then direct us to the line we originally were in....) we finally were assisted, however the agent we dealt with was impatient and tried to get us out of his sight as quick as he could so he could be off to I'm assuming home time, lunch or break; we advised him that it was imperative that both my mom and I were sat in the same row, seats side by side as my daughter was to be in my lap and we wanted to avoid any potential disturbance of other passengers (bottles, toys, snacks, etc. were in my carry on bag so it would be easier for my mom to grab items to assist if my daughter were to get fussy and let's be honest, a baby under 1 will get fussy in take-off, during the flight and while landing because nobody, let alone a wiggly wanting to explore the world baby wants to sit in an enclosed space beside a stranger for over three hours while the heat closes in due to the excessive amount of bodies, weird noises all about and different smells ranging from body odour to food. Also, if I'm in need of the bathroom, it can be easier to hand her off to my mom.)
Once we received our boarding passes, we noticed that the rows were different and it appeared that my mom would be sitting in the same row opposite my row, but sat at the window while I would be sat in the middle of a different row. We inquired with the agent and he assured us that we would be sat right next to each other in the same row (side by side, seat to seat). We advised that the passes didn't appear to note that, but he once again reiterated that we would be before literally walking away.
Security/Customs was a breeze, they were quick and efficient in swabbing my daughters bottles, food and snacks as with reviewing my carry on to ensure no liquids and all that; I did however forget my baby sunscreen in the bag (my bad) and they unfortunately had to throw it out, but not before apologizing. We were treated very nicely and they were quick to get us processed through.
When we got to the boarding zone, we inquired with the agent there regarding our seats, who told us that we were correct in our original assumption; she advised that she would look into finding seats right next to each other and thankfully she was able to move our seats to two that were right together, which was extremely appreciated!
The pre-boarding is not very efficient, they will call out certain lines (priority, etc.) and tell you where to line up, then once everyone is lined up in one line, they'll shuffle the lines about a few times and it seems like you end up in the line you were originally in, from that point actually boarding the plane is a breeze.
Overall, the airport was very bright as with clean but they might want to retrain some of their staff and the rethink the way they handle their pre-boards.
