| - I've gone most of my life not being physically active or fit, but in my late 30's and early 40's, I gained an obnoxious amount of weight. Over the last 3 years (my late 40's), I have lost 90 lbs. with diet, weight training, and cardio. I reached a plateau in my weight loss, so decided to ramp up my cardio with boxing. Knockout Fitness on Tatum is in my neighborhood, so I wandered in to check out the facility and meet with the staff.
I am OBVIOUSLY not an athlete or at my optimal weight, but nevertheless, the staff treated me with such respect and encouragement, I couldn't wait to sign up.
I have been to several classes and although I cannot do most of the calisthenics (because of how badly I treated my body over a decade - burpees and jumping are horrible on my weak knees), the instructors are NEVER critical or judgmental. When everyone else is down on the floor and jumping around, I stay moving by running in place. I have never, not once, felt like I was being ridiculed or scolded by the instructor. They glance over at me, and maybe suggest some arm movements I can add to my workout, but I never feel like I don't belong.
I feel like they want me there and they want me to succeed. They are so encouraging and nice! Even the other members are kind and non-judgemental. Everyone there is paying attention to their own workout, so that, too is a plus!
I would highly recommend Knockout Fitness to anyone- even if you're not quite fit, don't be intimidated. Knockout Fitness welcomes everyone and you'll feel SO accomplished when you leave there!
See you there! I will be the frumpy girl in the pink boxing gloves! :)
