| - This place is so new, that I hope it improves because I really like it.
On my many visits to Vegas, I usually like to stay in the Planet Hollywood, but I couldn't figure out why rates were ridiculously high (I live out of the country so was totally out of touch that that was fight weekend, Cinco De Mayo and then Mother's Day!). For my wedding, I was going to have a lot of guests coming from the UK and Dubai and wanted to take them to Vegas the week before. When I happened upon the LINQ, I scoured the internet (Yelp and TripAdvisor) for reviews and was surprised to see they are mostly good, considering it is still under construction.
We stayed from May 4-7. I had about 6 other parties book here at the LINQ. I booked directly through the hotel website and made some changes to my reservation- the call center representative was helpful and efficient. When I received the email to check in online, I, of course, jumped on the chance.
First of all, trying to find the drive up entrance to the hotel is confusing. We ended up finding a way in through the Venetian. Our friends ended up parking in the open parking lot because they couldn't find a way in (but they are also Irish and Italian so that could be it!).
Upon entering, it can be a bit confusing as the check in desk is located several yards to the left of the main entrance door. I'm extremely glad I checked in online as the line for check in must have been about 50 people deep. Unfortunately for all but 1 other party in our group, they didn't receive the option to check in online, and we couldn't figure out how to do so without that email, so we were forced to wait for them to check in. Express check in, however, was very quick and easy.
The elevator systems are confusing, but once you figure it out, (and find the hidden elevators in your area), it can be pretty quick and easy to use.
Our room was a king, and apparently was bigger than others with a king room. 2 of our parties didn't get the room they requested, but after a bit of negotiating they upgraded to a larger room with a discount.
The rooms themselves are fantastic - minimalistic yet contemporary. The bed is extremely comfortable, and I do like the shower with its soap dispensers - some people think this "cheapens" a hotel room, but it's very eco-friendly and alleviates the issue of shelve space in a shower. If I had known, I would have skipped bringing my own. Most of the time, the complimentary shampoo and conditioners are never enough and I have to call for more or bring my own. The cons for the room - the AC is incredibly loud, and the positioning of our room (pool facing, in green section, 12th floor) caused the noise from the street stage down below to amplify. It as as if we were at the stage itself - this was pretty annoying.
As for the pool, depending on the day and demand, you can get a sunbed for varying prices of $75 (on Cinco De Mayo) to $25 (the day after) which can include water and beers or cocktails. We opted not to take the cocktails and they dropped the price to $50 which was great since we'd gone down at 9am and I planned on being there all day. The pool does close a bit early at 5pm, and at 4pm the sun is gone from the main pool. Poolside service is friendly and efficient and the vibe is more of a chill out space rather than party space.
Fast forward to our big night out. Our group met downstairs at the Irish pub, Oshea's. Security guard approached us (we are a group of late 20's-early 30s but I guess we all look pretty young) and asked my friends for their IDs. They all produced driver's licenses or government ID's from the UK, Ireland and Italy. He asked them for passports, but of course, they don't go clubbing with their passports as it's a bit risky. He disappeared with them saying he had to "get them approved" and finally came back and returned them. I find this to be a bit ridiculous, as I imagine there are millions of foreign tourists in glitzy Las Vegas - how many of them carry around their passports when they buy a beer? This should probably be improved upon.
Overall, the LINQ is shaping up to be a great little spot on the Strip. The location is perfect and the remodel is beautiful. It looks as if they were almost done with it when we arrived. I hope they can work out the kinks because I hope to stay here again in the future.
