  • I went into Avec Plaisir's Danforth location shortly after I'd been fitted at Tryst Lingerie two years ago. I wear a 30H, so I have to go to specialty shops and I've never had a worse experience than I did at Avec Plaisir. Their merchandise is attractive and as far as I could tell, the selection isn't bad, but I found the service rude, obnoxious, and condescending in the extreme and the fitting suboptimal, at best. When I walked in, a man greeted me and asked my bra size and brand of choice. I'm not entirely comfortable with male staff in a lingerie store, but I overlooked it, provided the information, and explained I'd only come in to browse en route from work. He insisted I have a fitter size me because (based on his visual assessment) I couldn't have been a 30H. I had the same experience at Sophia's and the fitter later admitted her error, but aside from Avec Plaisir, I've never had anyone tell me that my bras are of inferior quality to the ones they carry because most sales clerks know better than to talk down to their customers. I should've walked out immediately, but I wanted to see these rarefied, exquisite bras he claimed to have. The bra itself was gorgeous, except (of course) that the (female) fitter put me in the wrong size. The band was too loose and the bra neither lifted nor supported my bust, but she assured me it fit exactly as it should and went to look for the matching thong, at which point the (male) sales clerk took a quick look at my butt to visually assess my underwear size. Once again, ick. When she realized it wasn't in stock, another (female) sales associate told me matching lingerie looked tacky and tried to convince me I should buy the bra on its own. I made several attempts to say no (politely), but they clerks persisted in their aggressive sales tactics. I understand sales are the first priority for any store, but I found the attitude of the staff completely alienating. I might've returned to Avec Plaisir if I'd had a chance to browse because quality product speaks for itself and I'm more than happy to invest in a good bra. Unfortunately, courtesy, correct fit, and customer satisfaction didn't seem like much of a priority for Avec Plaisir. Sophia's didn't have as much of a selection in my size as I would've liked, but I'd rather shop there any day than ever return to Avec Plaisir.
