  • I visited this past March and was happy we decided to go. The Laundry Room was interesting. Small speakeasy in the back of the Commonwealth bar near Fremont. You need to text the phone number for a reservation (I'll let you find it, that's part of the fun) or show up at the Commonwealth bar (I'd suggest between 7 and 9, and not a weekend) and schmooze the bartenders/waitstaff for the number. I could not get in on the night I wanted, but based on my schedule and theirs, was happy with a reservation the next night. It's small, intimate, custom vintage drinks, a bit pricey ($15 a drink or so) but interesting and different. We watched one guy show up at the front bar (Commonwealth) and be denied entry. He was dressed wrong (cargo shorts, baseball cap, popped collar) and kept loudly and belligerently demanding to be let into Laundry Room. Yeah, that didn't happen. Mind the house rules (in the drink menu) ... no standing at the bar, no loud talking, no talking on cell phones, no PDA, no photography, don't be a creeper (yeah, that's a rule), The only negative - didn't appreciate the bartender's patronizing answers when my female date asked him what was in the drink that he custom made for her based on her likes (yeah, they do that, give them a try!) When I asked he told me precisely what was in mine, but he told her something to the effect of "Oh, you know, frothy stuff and sweet stuff). Not cool. and if not for this I'd have given them a five. Look around when you're in there. Check out the decor walls, look around the bathroom. Lot's of cool stuff to see. Talk to the bartender. They know a lot ... history of the place, unusual mixology, bad jokes ... Oh, and if you're a smoker, they'll let you exit to smoke and return, no problem. One odd thing ... Commonwealth (the front bar) was mellow when we entered at 8, but when we left around 10, it was a loud, hip-hopping dance party. Kind of time-traveling weird after you've been soaking up the vibe in The Laundry Room for a few hours.
