  • I attempted to purchase some wine at the Kent Walgreens. When the manager rang it up, he asked for my id, so I gave it to him. He then scanned it and proceeded to ask the girl in front of me for her id as well because I was talking to her and it appeared to him that she was "with" me because we were talking. He then refused to sell me the wine, which is ludicrous because the girl in front of me had nothing to do with my transaction and never touched the wine. I argued politely and he told me that it is the law that they id everyone who is "with" the person who is buying alcohol. I have read over the alcohol laws in Ohio and there is ABSOLUTELY no law of that nature. Regardless of whether that girl was "with" me or not, the store should not have any right to demand her id if she is not paying for or touching the alcohol. It might be a Walgreens policy (or the policy of that particular employee) - however the employee felt the need to lie to me and say it is the law. I have never had this problem in the past and have bought alcohol hundreds of times at hundreds of different establishments. I can only imagine that this store doesn't refuse to sell alcohol to any customer who walks in the store with their child. That being the case, I feel that I was unfairly discriminated against. I will not be ever purchasing another item from Walgreens again and I will encourage anyone I know to do the same.
