| - This review is for an incident a few years back. My brother and I went in with the intention of buying some gifts for a birthday and we picked out two mugs that were on sale.
The mug broke such that the handle went right into my bros hand and hit a vein, and immediately started bleeding profusely. I had no training to handle such emergencies at the time and told my brother to clean the wound and press a paper towel to put some pressure there while i found help.
It took me a while to even find someone to assist us because there was so little staff, and when I did, the woman grabbed the First Aid Kit and turned to me in panic and said "Do you know how to use this?? Because i don't!!!" and called someone else to come and help, who also had NO CLUE how to use the kit. This continued for about 5 min in which time my brother was turning ghostly pale and dizzy due to blood loss and i called my parents while the staff were contemplating on an ambulance.
THANK GOD a shopper was passing by who happened to have training in First Aid and immediately took hold of the situation: elevated my brothers hand and wrapped my brother's hand with gauze expertly, and instructed my mom to get him some fluids to rehydrate him as my brother could barely stand at this point. He advised us to go to the hospital ad my brother woud need stitches but because he had the hand wrapped up, everything should be in control. To this day I am SO grateful for him, i couldn't imagine how disastrous the situation could have turned to with two teens, an untrained, panicking staff, and my parents to take the reigns.
After hearing that everything would be ok after a trip to the hospital, the store manager immediately escorted us to their arts and crafts room to speak to us. Essentially the conversation was the review what had happen, as well as (the gist of it anyways) none of this was their fault (my brother got hurt from a bad quality product which is a fault of the mug company which is why they were selling the cups at a low cost anyways, they were only selling the item not making them so its not their problem, yada yada).
They asked my parents if they were going to take legal action against them and given that we were all in shock we were unsure (ultimately they decided not to as my parents didn't want to cause trouble).
I am understanding that they cannot guarantee the quality of their item, and the cup breaking is not their fault. But not training the staff properly to handle emergencies and the way the situation was handled by the all employees is absolutely deserving of no stars. How they were concerned about saving their own butts and taking us into a room to talk about legalities etc rather than having us go to the hospital and have my brother treated is completely upsetting.
