  • The receptionist was an awful woman. We had done nothing to her, barely even interacted with her other than to give her my mother's health card and she was already very snippy with us and only us. This was confirmed by the very genial and cheerful service she gave to the only other patient in the waiting room (a white woman). Without informing us of anything, she told us to sit. When we asked about 20 minutes later when the doctor my mother wanted to see was in, she said no. No follow up. My mother had to ask if the male doctor would be seeing her. She said no, he's leaving for the day. Still no follow up. My mother had to ask again who would be seeing her. We were told one of the other female doctors. "Is she in?" Of course, "no" came the curt answer. "When will she be in?" "I don't know." Excuse me? What kind of receptionist are you? Nothing we did would have elicited such rude behaviour. I quite understand that it might be frustrating when patients continually ask "where's the doctor?" but we asked ONCE. Finally, after 45 minutes of waiting (with no real end in sight, as the receptionist refused to proffer any estimate), my mother asked again. Finally, we were able to pry the information from her that the doctor could arrive anytime between 3 to 4 PM, which was absolutely fine. My question is: would it have been so hard to tell us that tiny but crucial piece of information as we walked in instead of simply rebuffing us with "I don't know's" and "No's"? We felt extremely unwelcome and eventually left for the Markham-Stouffville Urgent Care Clinic in the Boxgrove Medical Plaza and we were served promptly and courteously, as every other customer was. Shame on whoever that receptionist happens to be.
