I visited Scarpetta quite a while ago, but the experience was a negative one and therefore I feel the need to share, for the sake of diners who are looking to spend some money on a nice dinner. I'm giving Scarpetta one star for the bread. It was the only remarkable part of the meal. Service was alright... A bit on the snooty side despite the fact that we ordered the most expensive things in the menu and lots of wine.
The most disappointing moment if the evening was when I ordered the truffled egg noodles, which were supposed to be dressed with shaved truffle at the table. I don't know what our waiter grated on my pasta, but nothing about my meal tasted like truffle. It was nothing more than buttered noodles. The price for this pasta dish was an offensive $60. No matter how passable anything else was (the diver scallops were nothing special), I could never justify being robbed blind for such a sad and disappointing main course.
Perhaps judging a place by one dish is unfair, but truffles and pasta are special to me. A place that charges this much for Italian food should be doing it above and beyond.
