| - Born and raised in Hawaii and have heard good things about 808. Friday night and this is our dinner choice.
It's nestled right in a small mall area right next to a soul food place (Ella Em's) which i have bookmarked to also visit. What a coincidence!
As we arrived we could tell that it was a little steady, walked in and was able to get a seat right away. The inside and searing reminds me of a place back home called Islanders or L&L.
Looking at the menu there are quite a bit options including spam musubi and some Island favorites like Hamburger Steak, Garlic Chicken, Kalbi, etc....Yum!!!!
Got up to the counter to order and had decided on what we wanted, low and behold they were out of what we wanted..okay so what should we get...
Finally went with Garlic Chicken plate, Kaukau Pack (Fried Saimin, Rice, Spam, Sesame Chicken and Grilled Fish) chicken and fish is able to interchange, Spam Musubi and Hurricane Fries (Furikake and Garlic). Total came out to $33.00 with drink. Still a little pricy. The line grew behind us and everyone was surprised to hear that were out of a lot of menu options. I mean it was 5pm and already out of it.
Food came out pretty quick, in about 10-15 minutes. My daughter was happy with her musubi and i was fairly happy with my Kaukau Pack except for the fish and the very small scoop of rice. Fries, Garlic Chicken and potato mac was ono!!!
Whenever we find a local spot we always like to give it a try and support, i think we'll be back to give it another shot but maybe for lunch instead to be sure that all menu items are available.
I give this place 3 stars due to the fact that what we wanted twice around wasnt available and the fact that the counter interaction was not positive. Hoping to update this review with more stars added on!!!!
