| - I read about this place in Frommer's and being the ice cream fanatic that I am, this was another place on my Toronto must-do list. I wish I had read up on this place in yelp first, because then I would have known beforehand that the address is, in fact, very misleading. When I located the address, I found it belonged to a Jewish Community Center. So I asked two nice guys standing in front of the main entrance where Greg's was, and they said right around the corner in the same building, and lo and behold, there it was, with a line out the door.
There were some unusual choices, like stout, but I settled on maple cream (I am in Canada after all) and malt chip. I thought the malt chip had good malt flavor, reminiscent of Ovaltine from my childhood, but the maple cream had a very weak maple flavor and since I am used to maple nut ice cream this paled in comparison.
But I have to confess that I am an ice cream snob, living in the San Francisco Bay Area which is the home of boutique gourmet ice cream. All in all, I thought the ice cream was fine, but nothing extraordinary. And it was fun to explore a local shop with such a long history.
