| - Ok, so I really shouldn't have waited until I had excruciating jaw pain to be looking for a dentist, but who really enjoys getting their teeth examined for possible cavities or worse?? I was lucky to find Dr. Chon's positive Yelp reviews, and his office was able to quickly fit me into their schedule within a few days after I called. I was worried that my jaw pain was being caused by a tooth infection because I hadn't been to a dentist for preventive maintenance in a little over a year, and I'm also lazy when it comes to adequately brushing and flossing.
The new patient paperwork is only one page, and the $99 cleaning cost includes x-rays and checkup! My cleaning needed to wait until a few weeks later, so I wasn't charged anything on my first visit. Dr. Chon's assistants were careful and efficient when x-raying my throbbing jaw and made sure that there was minimal discomfort. It was only a few minutes afterwards that Dr. Chon was ready to inspect my jaw. This is one honest and supportive dentist because he said that he only saw some redness in my gums and agreed with me that the jaw pain could be from a viral-triggered inflammation of a nerve. No cavities, nothing suspicious from the X-rays, and he didn't rush me to get a cleaning until we were sure that my jaw was healed.
Luckily, the swelling diminished on its own after a few weeks, and Kyle (front desk lady) was so patient with me having to cancel and reschedule twice. I'm impressed that Dr. Chon actually does the patient's dental cleanings himself. I have receding and sensitive gums, and his cleaning technique was fast, precise, and as gentle as you can expect when scraping with a sharp pick. The suctioning and rinsing was timed well too so that I wasn't suffocating in yucky saliva. His assistant will finish up polishing and flossing your teeth, and she was just as considerate when working around my gums. This is the first time I can say that a dental visit felt pleasantly tolerable! Another plus: there was no lecture on reminding me to practice better dental hygiene at home (because I already know I should even though I don't). If you want a dentist who's punctual, approachable, listens, and doesn't try to scare you into paying for expensive or unnecessary treatment, come over to see Dr. Chon and staff at Smooth Dentistry for any of your dental concerns, and you'll walk out with a happier and healthier smile! :D
