I wonder if there is a crowd surge at Big Jim's every time their episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives airs. My husband and I had watched the episode earlier in the week and were feeling Italian so we decided to make the short hike from South Side. I ordered a bowl of Wedding Soup and half of a meatball hoagie. He ordered the lasagna. The meatballs are good and the hoagie hit the spot, largely due to the bread and melted cheese. The wedding soup is delicious! Neither of us were impressed by the lasagna. There wasn't much flavor / seasoning aside from the sauce which is a little on the safe "no indigestion afterwards" side.
The portions are generous and the atmosphere is definitely divey with late 70's decor and a dedicated clientele of local regulars. I would say it's a great place for a sandwich, soup and a beer. I was eyeing up the jumbo wings someone at the bar ordered. I would definitely give Big Jim's another shot.
