| - Overall this is no better or no worse than any other PetSmart I've been too. I've been a PetSmart costumer for a long time, but from now on I am going to buy my pet food online.
I have enjoyed going to PetSmart for the most part, but the sales marketing is very difficult for me -- constantly they have items that are buy 2 get 1 free with the numbers in big print and the words in tiny print.
This is probably corporate and it is either really clever marketing - very dumb marketing - or elder abuse (because we can't read the small print, he he).... let's say you see the 2 and the 1 and you think it is 2 for the price of 1 - as it would be most places instead of buy 2 get 1 free. You were only going to buy 1 but now you buy 2. Guess what? You spent double what you planned, and the store has double sales. Clever marketing. Else you figure it out and you get angry. Dumb marketing.
And if you get home before you discover it, you can't just bring back your receipt to get the 1 free item, no. You have to carry whatever you bought back to the store, return the two items and get the 1 free item. This can be an incredible hassle. Nor have I ever had a clerk say -- oh look you have 2 of these -- do you know you get one free?... so .I don't have to take my mistake home and bring it back to get the free one. Many places I have had clerks point out sales but not at Petsmart.
Final straw was the buy 2 get 1 free sign when I thought A HA I got this now. So I bought three. I checked the email receipt (luckily I didn't drive all the way home but was in the parking lot) and saw I was charged for all three. So I brought the items back into the store (I've learned this) to return them and to then re-buy it and get my free item -- and then I find out -- oh it was buy 2 of the wet food - GET A FREE DRY food. Okay, that did it.
Tired and discouraged, I returned all the items and left, thinking I was going to have to go to another store to get wet pet food but guess what? I remembered I CAN BUY IT ONLINE! So right now Amazon.com but I might try Chewy or something...
Like I said, not the particular store's fault, but I hope they send this up to corporate. Or maybe I don't care a lot. From now on I'm buying my pets' food online. I will not have the fun of browsing in all the toys and accessories, but I will probably save money. The price for 4 of the 12 packs of wet food online was cheaper than the buy 2 get 1 free would've been anyway. And I won't be tempted to buy little toys and treats my pets don't need. So I will save money.
I think the corporate policy on how they configure and tag their sales just did a reverse job on me... it drove me out of the brick-and-mortar to the virtual world.. and that is sort of sad.
