| - Reserved a one-way rental from Las Vegas to Denver, 13 days total. We had reserved the Jeep Liberty class and had hoped for that car (we did get one). Didn't have any experiences with the shuttle(s), as are mentioned numerous times in other reviews, as we had rented a car locally, so I just drove it there and then my husband drove the other car once we picked it up.
No problems with the wait or completing the paperwork for the car.
Until...
I returned to the counter to ask the original representative if I could get my name on the agreement to also drive, as it was a pretty long trip. He asked for my driver's license but said since I don't have the same last name as my husband, we would have to pay $10/day. I tried explaining to him that was a bogus (and sexist) policy but all he said was "I'm not the manager, I can't make changes to that policy, if we did it for you, we'd have to do it for everybody." Then, and I'm not making this up, he asked "Why didn't you take your husband's last name, it's a nice last name." I nearly flipped a lid.
Immediately after that, I went to the customer service desk to log a complaint against the company and against that representative. I was promptly assisted by Tiago, who, after listening to our story and seeing our dual military IDs, had no problems adding me to the rental agreement as a driver, without the daily excess charge.
The Jeep had been run through the car wash, so it fairly clean on the outside, but was still pretty dirty on the inside. In fact, it was the cleanest of the five Liberties that were available for rental, which was a pretty sad state of affairs. Still, it wasn't filthy, just not cleaned.
We had no problems with the Jeep until later that day, when I realized it was completely out of washer fluid. We stopped in Zion and got some, but unfortunately, it kept freezing (unsure if that is a defect of the Jeep or just bad fluid). The wipers were only summer rated, so we had a horrible time with a snow storm in UT.
Once we got to Salt Lake City, I checked on the washer fluid again and just happened to notice THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE CAR. What? We immediately went and got some, filled up the tank, and checked on it multiple times through the trip. It never leaked, so that tells me that, in addition to the washer fluid, the company had not bothered to check or fill up the coolant. All I can say is I'm glad we didn't break down somewhere, that would have been horrible.
The worst thing about all of this is that I wrote to the GM with the email address given to me in Vegas about 7-10 days ago with all my concerns and I still haven't heard back.
