  • A trip to Malley's ice cream parlor is like a fantastic Sunday afternoon at Grandma's house. The pastel walls, the vintage ice cream dishes, the bowl of pretzels, and even the doilies remind me of time well spent in my Granny's kitchen, last updated in 1963, gorging myself on ice cream and pretzels. The simple charms that Malley's has maintained, even through remodelings and remerchandisings, make this a special place for families indeed. I spent my 6th birthday on the Lakewood Malley's veranda, and I am always transported to being 6 years-old here whenever I visit. My 26 year-old self knows that the ice cream is really not that special and the chocolates are overpriced (except post holidays, which are the best times to load up on 50% off candies). Still, I love this place. The air is permeated by that unmistakably awe-inspiring smell which is jarred in the form of fudge, which you should definitely take to your Grandma on a Sunday afternoon.
