  • Oh Livestock - how much money have you cost me over the years? My addiction is sneakers and you've been my dealer for years. Livestock is a premium sneaker shop/boutique that started out in Vancouver. 'Livestock' is a play on words on 'deadstock' -- primarily used in sneakerhead circles to denote 'unworn' or 'brand new in box'. It has nothing to do with farm animals. Livestock eventually ran headlong into Goodfoot, their Toronto counterpart, when they both opened up locations in the each others 'hood. I was in the prime of my sneaker habit during the turf wars - like any drug dealer war, the shit got better and for cheaper. But I usually backed my local shop against the invading forces of the Toronto sneaker scene - Livestock guys were much nicer and they had the better products... and frankly, FUCK TORONTO. Eventually, Goodfoot folded completely (as with many sneaker shops during the massive die out after the financial crisis first hit). Now, Livestock is the big dog in Canada with two locations in Vancouver and locations in Toronto (I believe the Calgary location shut down). The inventory is the same as the Vancouver store - offerings from Vans, New Balance, Puma, Adidas, etc. and smaller brands like Clae, Alife, Pointer, etc. But the star attraction is their Tier Zero and Quickstrikes Nike releases and they have a Jordan account. They also bring in some pretty damned rare collaborations and exclusives. And they sell the accessories to match your kicks from brands like G-Shock, Hundreds, Acapulco Gold, BBC, etc. I gave both locations in Vancouver '5 stars' (i.e. http://www.yelp.com/biz/livestock-vancouver) -- the staff is nice, especially the older staff to regulars (a.k.a. whales) like me. I really can't give Toronto Livestock a perfect rating. The staff is pleasant enough - but the crew in Vancouver seem to live and breathe the scene whereas the Toronto staff seem more aloof. And honestly, how do you rate the store that feeds your addiction? No matter where I go (in Canada, at least) -- the sneakers... they keep calling me... they calling me.
