This was my first visit to The Porch at Schenley in Oakland. Hopefully, it wont be my last. We started with a pitcher of sangria that was perfect on this hot day. It was full of fruit and not bitter at all. We shared the hummus with pickled veggies(beets, pickles, onions and cauliflower). The hummus was delicious and not too garlicky. The pickle added a great crunch. The star was the pita which was charred and probably housemade. It was seasoned with curry and sesame seeds...soft and fluffy I would have been happy with this as my meal. I ordered the Bianca pizza as my meal which was very tasty with fig jam, arugula and goat cheese but the crust was no where near as good as the pita. The pizza is is pretty large so would be a great appetizer or a meal to share. My other dinner mates got the filet with potatoes o gratin and asparagus which was the feature meal tonight. They both liked their meals but didn't rave about them. I will definitely be back to try some other things that caught my eye. I'm always happy to eat someplace that serves fresh wholesome food. Definitely give this a try if you haven't already.
