  • On Memorial Day stopped into Heist Brewery for lunch and some beers. For food we ordered the Beer Cheese and the BBQ Burger, and for drinks we made our way through two Flights. Quality Heist Brewery is a unique place, because despite being a brewery, that doesn't seem to define their identity. They feel like a full service restaurant and pub that also happens to brew up some beers. We easily were able to try the ten beers on draft, two of which were guest taps. On this afternoon it was "Hive" Fives, Blurred Is The Word, Room For Activities, Not From Concentrate, Now Trending Blackberry Pick'n, Uberquench'l, Average Joe, and then the two guest choices Good Road Blue Byway and Deep River 4042. Despite being a small selection, each beer I tried was solid. My favorite would have to be Not From Concentrate, a delicious hazy IPA with a wonderful fruit flavor. I also was partial to Blurred Is The Word, another fun IPA. And while I didn't dislike any beers, my least favorite was Blackberry Pick'n, a wheat beer that was extremely tart. Along with the beers we also took advantage of the kitchen, first with the Beer Cheese. It is a bowl of cheesy deliciousness that is paired up with some pretzels. The cheese itself uses beer along with white cheddar, cream cheese, and a mozzarella provolone blend. Excellent, as long as you have some calories to spare. We also ordered the BBQ Burger, which was just alright. The patty itself was great with a mix of brisket, porterhouse tail, and chuck, but for some reason the rest of the toppings, bacon jam, goat cheese, arugula, tomatoes, and bbq sauce did not work for me. Quantity Flights came with five samples, which was a little annoying since they only had ten beers total on tap, of which only eight were their beers. For food the Beer Cheese is heavy and filling, definitely a dish to share amongst a group. The burger was on the smaller size, but with the side of fries it is more than enough for lunch. Value I believe the flights cost $7 or $8, which is a solid price for five samplers. The lunch menu was also very affordable, with nothing on the menu listed for more than $14. Ambiance Heist Brewery is found in the NoDa area a little north of Charlotte. The space itself is massive and if not for the displayed tanks in the back room could easily be confused for any other bar. In front of the building they have a good sized outdoor patio with several tables and picnic benches. The inside space is split into three areas. The main door opens up into the first large dining area. This room is defined by its massive bar displaying not only the beer tap, but hundreds of liquor bottles. We were seated in the other large room that is further back. Here the highlight is the views of the beer tanks and the massive screens on the wall. They have multiple screens throughout the space making it a good place to watch a game. The brewery also has an upstairs area, which I assume is for private parties. I do want to highlight that I loved the music selection. The perfect mix of electronic, rock, and dance songs to keep your head bobbing at all times. Crowd Being that we had a flight to catch in the early afternoon, we were some of the first to arrive at the brewery. However, around noon a solid lunch crowd had begun to form. And while coffee and mimosas seemed like the more popular choice, we were far from the only ones grabbing an early beer. I would imagine that on weekend afternoons and evenings, as well as happy hour, that this place really fills up. Service Our server was friendly, but clearly was hit hard by the holiday weekend. She needed several reminders for things we asked for, as the coffee didn't have her going at full steam yet. But they had plenty of other servers in tow, presumably expecting a holiday weekend crowd, who helped lighten the load. Parking We did not have a car during our visit so we did not have to deal with parking. However, it appeared they had a small private lot, but one unlikely to be able to handle the crowd on a busy day. Extra Heist Brewery is definitely more than just a brewery. While they brew some solid beers, though I wish they had a few more, they also have quality food and a fun space to brunch or watch a game. Clearly a hangout spot, which I'm sure fills up fast after work and on weekend afternoons and evenings.
