  • I'm torn on how many stars I should give this place. Because I do like it. It's close to my house, they always have what I need, it's usually pretty decently priced, and I don't usually require the "help" of an associate. So the store itself gets 4 stars. The associates on the other hand. Oye. Yesterday was NO exception. We had some garage door issues over this weekend, and we had a company out Friday to install new springs. Then Saturday the sweet new springs were too much for our busted old Genie opener so that went kaput. We'd been in the store a few weeks prior eyeballing the new Ryobi ones with all the different attachments, and I was pleased to see they were still running the deal where you got one of the modules for free. So hello new opener. Sort of. I found someone who had an apron that said something about installation, but he said he was just the HVAC guy or something. But he went and grabbed us a cart and what I thought would be someone to help us. He was super helpful. Don't know his name. I do know Jan's name though. I should because we sat there for almost 40 minutes. Remember when I mentioned the busted old Genie? Yes, busted. As in did not work. Door did not open. Well, I mean it opened manually but I am a very small person and the door is very large and heavy. I wanted the door installed. And here comes Jan. There was a silver alert from appliances because Jan was missing. She wandered over to the window and door department and tried oh so very hard to understand the computer and words on the screen. She explained nothing to me about the installation process, how it worked, and told me about four times how much it cost. Which I already knew. Because I told her "Yes, that's what the shelf says." Seven or eight times. I don't know what she did but she went through like four screens, called a manager twice, and still couldn't figure it out. During this entire process as I'm sitting there, a guy with two kids walks by and I guess she knew them or something because as she's in THE MIDDLE OF TYPING IN MY INFORMATION she stops and turns completely around to talk to them. Like, full on conversation. Because I had nothing better to do with my time clearly and she's paid hourly. She was finally able to figure things out and so I was like "Can they come out today?" She says no, it's already after 4. I reiterated that I was under the impression I could have it put in today because as I said earlier my garage door did.not.function. She called someone (a manager, I guess?) and when I asked her "Well can I get it put in tomorrow?" she told me someone would call me "probably Tuesday, or maybe even Wednesday." to put it in. It was at this point I realized oh, they only do the installs Monday through Friday during business hours, don't they? And she said yes that is correct. Which is WILDLY convenient because it's not like I work or anything. (I do.) At this point I said F it and just bought the garage door opener. She got real uppity when I was like I'll just go check out up front, she was all "I have it right here it's almost done." So I don't know if she gets commissions or whatever on stuff. When she was calling people she seemed real concerned about making sure it counted on her leads or something. Also, during this whole debacle another associate had a customer that needed keys made and he told Jan "this customer needs a key made" and she just told him "I don't know how to do that." and turned back around. Not really relevant to my experience but it was still rude. So yeah I paid the company who fixed my garage springs to come out and install my opener. Which he did. On a Sunday. Of a holiday weekend. For not that much more than what the HD install was priced at. So basically the store gets 5 stars and Jan gets -4 stars. Leash her up and keep her in appliances. Hopefully she knows a little more about that department.
