  • I'm a comic book enthusiast, and this has been my local comic store for the past few years. A lengthy review below, but the TLDR is that in my opinion, this store has everything you could ask for, whether you're a hardcore comic book lover, or a newbie. - Caters to all interest levels. While I'd classify myself as an "enthusiast / Wednesday Warrior" (and below are a lot of details other enthusiasts may care about), Silver Snail's also great for people who are less knowledgeable and may hit a comic shop every month or two (or maybe even looking at a first-time visit) - New comics: they are large enough that they buy the vast majority of new books every week (including Indy-publisher titles). Most smaller stores can't afford to order copies of less popular books unless their customers pre-order / put on their pull lists. SS is big enough that you can expect almost every book to be available off-the-rack on Wednesdays - Pricing: All new books are priced at US$ cover price (in C$), which is effectively a 20-25% discount off. You also get a free bag and board. This is incredibly good pricing for a comic store - most smaller stores will only give these kinds of discounts to regular / pull-list customers (if that). Trade paperbacks too are also at US cover price (in C$). Again, this is a really great discount which only a store big enough like Silver Snail can afford given their volume - Service / Friendliness: The employees are great - in general, they leave you to browse on your own, but are super friendly / knowledgeable if you ask for help (or if you look like you're lost). Note though, they are a very busy store, so if you need help, I would ask someone straight away rather than wait for someone to come up to you (especially on Weds). Everyone there is very well-versed in comics, so are great at helping you find what you're looking for (if something specific, or more general recommendations) - Atmosphere: The store is very clean, well-lit, and the in-store coffee shop is great. A perfect mix of "trendy-nerdy". Not at all the "dank, dark, musty comic shop" that one may think of the stereotypical comic shop. - Selection: given their size, they have a large back-issue selection in easy-to-access pull-out drawers. If I'd guess, there's something like equivalent of 100 long-boxes out and available for perusing. While I'm not really into looking through the bins regularly, I have noticed the stock gets replenished after a reasonable amount of time, so worth having a look through every month or two. They also carry a ton of toys, games, cards. Personally I only go for the comic books, but I know they have a really big selection of non-comic stuff which makes up a big part of their store. Overall, love Silver Snail and while there are a few things on-the-margin that they could improve (eg. pre-orders for new comics / variant covers that aren't incentive-ratio), they are pretty much everything I could ask for in a comic store!
