| - "How's your Steak Tartare, Sir? Would you like to order something different?"
Said the waiter, at what was formerly known as Etienne's Different Pointe of View.
We were in our late teens then.
And by our waiter's questioning, he was quite sure that these runts were unfamiliar with French cuisine, carefully prepared by the legendary Chef Etienne.
I politely responded to him that it was as good, or even better than the Steak Tartare that I had when I was in Paris. "My compliments to the Chef!" I exclaimed.
It's been that long since we've dined at this establishment. And although the structure shows signs of aging, the passage of time hasn't quelled my Gasps in Awe as to the beauteous view of the surrounding valley from the elevated location where the restaurant resides. Nor has time diminished the beauty of my Beloved wife, whose company never gets old.
Different Pointe of View is legendary in the Valley, not simply because of its magnificent views, but also because of the remarkable dining experience from the carefully prepared Entrees and Main courses; as well as, the friendly and efficient wait staff.
From the moment that we crested the hill as we ascended towards the restaurant, our Valet was right there -eagerly, and promptly, opening the Passenger door to assist my wife.
We were early for our reservation; therefore, our Hostess directed us to the Lounge so that we could avail ourselves of some appetizers, and take in the intoxicating view of the lighted landscape, below.
It wasn't too long before we were ushered into the dining room. Surprisingly, we were seated at approximately the same location when we last dined which seemed like eons ago.
Ian, our waiter, was simply so friendly and cordial.
His manner was warm and inviting. His customary introduction to that particular evening's offerings provided both the particulars, and the superlatives of each dish.
I opted for Chef's special, which was the Braised Short Rib. And my Beloved ordered the Bistro Steak. Both were absolutely sublime. Delicately prepared, overflowing with flavor, and the presentation was exquisite - even in the "romantically" lit atmosphere.
We did order an appetizer, which was the Chef's Cheese and Charcuterie Board. It was a great combination of meats and cheeses that is meant to whet one's palate, without overly satisfying our appetite for this evening's main courses.
And for the finale, we had the Chocolate & Peanut Butter dessert. They dub it "The Best Thing Ever"
As amazing as this dessert is, I have to politely disagree. I married The Best Thing Ever, and no dessert can possibly compare to her. She is my appetizer, main course, and dessert - all rolled into one!
After we thoroughly enjoyed the evening's repast, it was time to take in the intoxicating views - both of my lovely company, and the lighted Valley below.
We also had a wonderful, yet brief time, visiting with Ian as we discussed both our backgrounds of having lived in New York.
All through dinner, my wife and I were reminiscing about the last time we dined here. We were married shortly after that.
And she asked me, knowing what I know now, if I'd made made the right choice to marry here after ALL these years.
I told her, "I'd still say YES!"
And if you'd ask me if Different Pointe of View is still one of the Valley's premiere dining destinations, after all these years...
My response, "Unequivocally, Yes!"
