| - When our food was served, I caught myself getting excited and exclaiming, "WOW!"
I was off on a weekday, recovering from a turnaround trip to the East Coast. I wanted to a) not cook and b) still eat clean. Whenever this happens, my husband and I usually veer toward Mediterranean/Greek. Wanting to try new places, we headed toward The Fat Greek.
It's located in a large plaza - Sammy's LA Pastrami and Ricardo's can be spotted along the perimeter. You have to drive in toward the Food 4 Less. Parking's a breeze since the lot is quite large.
The interior is bright and clean. The lunch crowd was quite lively - busy enough for me to get excited about all the food gawking but open enough for us to be able to easily find a table.
I ordered the full lunch Greek Salad with chicken; dressing on the side. Now, I realize that salad isn't the ideal thing to order since not much cooking is involved. However, salads and club sandwiches are foods that, when tired or lazy, I'm more than happy to pay to save my the trouble.
My husband got the kefta kabob plate. That, with the salad, caught us both off guard. The food looked so so good. We were instantly impressed. Our excitement grew when we both tried the kabob and were hit with so much flavor. My husband considers it one of his top kefta kabobs.

Anyway, I've had many a salad and any a Greek salad, but this was just so pretty and so right. The chicken was perfectly cooked and flavorful and everything about it screamed freshness.

Curious, my husband ordered a side of gyro. He expected a piece of two, but was amazed to find this much served for $3. And it was good.

Satisfied by our clean meal, we decided to indulge with Athenian fries. For $3 you get this pile of cheesy goodness piled high and fresh out of the oven.

They're basically Greek fries with the extra step of adding toasty melty goodness with extra cheese and stint under the broiler. Which begs the question: what would Spartan fries look like?
I digress...
You'll find the restaurant isn't fancy, but it's obvious the ownership cares. The interior is clean. The food is done right - simply, well portioned, and presented cleanly.
We spent around $30 with tax and tip and I had leftover chicken to take home. Without my husband's soda, the fries, and the gyro, it's a very reasonably priced healthy lunch that brought us back in the next day for dinner... more on that to come!
