| - I've done about 30+ escape rooms around the US and abroad, and I have to say that Escape or Die is probably excellent compared to other Vegas rooms, but pretty mediocre overall. We tried the Zombie Virus room and the Biohazard rooms.
PROS: The ambiance here is EXCELLENT. The employees here stay in character from the moment you see them, and they really go out of their way to freak you out. The rooms all have ambient sounds and smells in addition to the standard environmental elements that really add to the experience. There were some moments when we were REALLY freaked out!
Plus, I absolutely loved the photo experience at the end. They have a great assortment of props that allow you to capture your escape room experience in a fun photo. ^_^
CONS: No hints! SUPER retarded and frustrating, especially since we got stuck on the 2nd puzzle in the Biohazard room, and essentially sat on the ground and waited for the next 45 minutes until we lost the game. Seriously? That is NO fun. They could have had a walkie talkie system, or could have added hints as notes through a cubbie hole. There were some audio hints that were randomly dropped through the speakers, but there was SO MUCH DISTORTION due to all of the scary background noise introduced through the speakers that most of the time we had NO IDEA what they were saying through the speakers, and had to wait 15 minutes for the next hint to be mumbled through the speakers.
The worst part was the randomness of the clues as compared to the solutions. One of the clues encourages you to do the OPPOSITE of what you actually had to do to solve the puzzle. There were also red herring clues, and just trial and error searches that didn't require any brainpower...just persistence to keep searching and trying random things until something worked.
Also, there was very little creativity with the locks themselves. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled going to rooms that have locks triggered by RFID placement and order, voice recognition systems, or even physical wire placement. These locks were simple number combo locks or keys. The rooms have some very creative storylines, but the experience adds up to just "unlock a bunch of padlocks."
So, I'm highly recommend it if you have NEVER done any escape room experiences before and have nothing to compare it to, or if you want to get really freaked out and have a great photo at the end to commemorate your experience. Otherwise...skip it.
