  • Nu Hotel is a car rental place masquerading as a hotel. Don't get me wrong when you actually get to your room it is OK, basic and no frills but OK. And for convenience to the airport it is good. Why I don't really like this place is because of false advertising. First of all they say they offer a free airport shuttle service to and from the airport. This is not entirely true. You have to take a sky train to Viscount station and then go downstairs to a phone and call Nu Car Rentals. You then get a guy on the other end who keeps asking you if you want to rent a car. Perhaps it is my Brit accent but this guy took ages to comprehend I just needed the shuttle pick up. Once the shuttle message was understood I was instructed to go outside to an empty car park, which I must admit at 10pm made me feel slightly uneasy. I was approached bu a man working for a rival car rental place, who once it was established where I was staying asked me how much I paid for the room as they have a habit of overcharging. Then I waited and waited and waited and waited. After about 20 minutes noone came so I called them back and was advised they were coming, eventually arriving 5 minutes later (I was told they would be 5 minutes initially). So on to "The Hotel". There are 2 desks in reception, one for car rentals and the other (unmanned) for Nu Hotel. I queued for ages and was repeatedly asked if I wanted to rent a car by one of the valet guys. I advised valet guy I just wanted to check into my room. He didn't seem to get this and kept checking I did not want to rent a car. Eventually jet lag rage set in and I asked if anyone could possibly check me in as I had waited ages with cases in hand. Eventually I got to my room, which was actually OK and for the price I paid ($80 CAD inc free wifi), pretty good value. I threw my bags down and collapsed. On awaking I was eager to sample the delicacies of the complimentary breakfast. I approached reception and was given a voucher for a 6 inch sub and coffee in the subway next door. Classic! Eager to escape this wannabe hotel / car rental weirdness I asked if I could be shuttled back to the airport so I could make my way into Downtown. After a mini repeat of the night before I got to my destination and strode off into the sunset. So Nu Hotel is what it says, a New Hotel. The rooms are OK, but the service was lackluster and low care factor at best. Customer service, the shuttle service, breakfast and false advertising need to be sorted out here. If they were then I would say this place could be OK. As it is, Nu Hotel serves a purpose for close proximity to the airport, but there are much better choices nearby at a similar price (Alt Hotel, Comfort Inn etc).
