This place is ROCK SOLID. (3 stars is very good from me, I'm trying to fight star inflation)
Really good restaurants are really really scarce in Charlotte, but Customshop is squarely on the list of really good ones (a very short list).
We went in on a rainy Monday and while it wasn't packed they were doing a good business.
The cheese/olive/charcuterie selections are very good. They could have probably parted with a little more of the prosciutto but what the heck.
Terrific wine list. Some excellent selections at almost every price point. Two spots that they did fall down on in this area were vintages that are not up to date on the list, and high end red wines are served at room temperature. We had an excellent 2006 Palacios that was as warm as bathwater. This even after I specifically asked if the reds were kept in a cooler? Management should address this issue immediately.
We split a butter lettuce salad, it was simple and excellent.
My date had the saffron fettuccine with shrimp, it was delicious. I had the crispy duck breast and it too was very good. Some of the reviews here seem to indicate that people think the duck breast isn't "crispy" enough, I thought it was fine. In addition, our server was aware of this issue and talked with us about it up front. Speaking of servers, ours (nice young NYU grad) did a fine job and was very pleasant (but I was disappointed about the temperature of the wine).
The room is very very well done from an ambiance perspective.
Net/net, the people at Customshop should be proud. I do not live in Charlotte full-time but am often there. I can't remember the last time I left a restaurant in Charlotte thinking "you know, that was really really good"....Customshop fills the void!
By the time we finished they were ready to close so can't comment on the desserts but I will be back another time to check those out!!
Keep up the good work.
